Two years down // Forever to go.

Happy Monday to you all. I know Mondays are reserved for Meeting & Greeting one of our boys - but since today is our Two Year Anniversary - I thought we would mix things up a bit and give you all a chance to get to know Isanon and I a bit more.
It is actually Friday evening right now, but by the time this posts and you are reading it - it will be Monday. Right now, Isanon is sitting on the floor packing our suitcases, while answering questions for this blog post - but by the time you are reading this, we will be out on our little Anniversary Getaway celebrating.

I thought this would be a good time to get Isanon's voice on this blog - since I am the one who usually does all the talking on here. So, I made up a little questionnaire for us to answer. Here goes.... (Isanon's answer's in blue, mine in pink}
Two things we have learned during these two years of marriage.
~ I have learned, or rather am learning, how important communication is. Often, I want Isanon to just know what I am feeling without fully communicating and that never really works out - and is not fair to Isa.
~ I am learning how to trust. Trust in our love, trust in our future, trust in Isa's ability to lead us. Trusting in others has never been easy for me, I have learned to be independent - but little by little, I am learning to completely trust Isanon in every aspect.
~ I have learned to have patience. Janel likes to have a plan, I like to just go - and sometimes that causes problems.
~ I have also learned how to show affection. Opening up and showing or saying how I feel is not easy for me, but Janel has shown me how important it is for our marriage.
Two things we love most about our other half.
~I love Isanon's heart. I have said it more times in these two years than I can count, but truly - Isanon has the best heart. He is always forgiving and sees the best in others - something he has taught me to do. He gives freely, he loves fiercely, and fully.
~ I love that Isanon challenges me. He challenges me to try new things, to not care what others think, and to seek God more. He teaches me how to be free and makes me feel beautiful. He pushes me beyond my comfort zone - and while I don't always like it in the moment, it teaches me to be a better person.
~ I love the way Janel treats me. She loves me and is always doing little things to show me that. She takes care of our house and takes care of me in so many ways.
~ I love the Passion that Janel has. She is very passionate about the things she loves and the dreams we have. She reminds me of that passion daily, and I love that.
Two of our best memories.
~A memory that I love, is our first Christmas together. American traditions and Brazilian traditions are wayyy different, so it was fun for us to make our own. I loved going out to buy a tree together, coming home to decorate it - while drinking hot chocolate in 95 degree weather. I loved getting each other presents, and waking up together to open them. I loved making sugar cookies, and buying and stuffing a stocking for one another.
~Another memory or time that I will never forget is the three months we lived with Bruce, Margaret, and Baby Azariah before moving to Brazil. We were newlyweds, everything was new and lovely - and we truly had the greatest time living with our best friends. We have so many memories from that time - everything from taking turns making dinners, to watching shows together - to Azariah following us to bed...we miss it all.
~One of my best memories was celebrating Janel's Valentines day this year. I wanted to do something more than just buy her a gift, so I decided to surprise her with a romantic dinner. I cooked, lit candles, picked out a movie and dressed up. I loved seeing how happy it made Janel.
~Another favorite memory was just a couple months ago when we went to Porto de Galinhas. The whole day was a good day for us, but my favorite part is when I got Janel to dance with me. It was a lot of fun and I loved dancing all night with my wife.

Two hardest things to adjust to after marriage.
~One of the hardest things for me to adjust to was Isanon's snoring. Oh Em Gee...that boy snored. Yes, as in past tense. Yes, as in God has shown me mercy and somehow taught Isanon how to stop snoring. The first couple weeks of marriage, I was convinced I would never sleep well again. I literally had to sleep with earphones in, listening to music. But, eventually I did get used to it. And, now (praise Jesus) it is a rare occurrence that Isa snores.
~ Another thing that was hard for me and still is at times, is getting used to how much Isanon cares about his clothes and shoes. The kid literally has almost double the amount of clothing items than I do. And, he likes to take care of these clothes - which is a great thing, just not what I expected. At least once a week, I come in the door to every single article of clothing in a pile on our bed. He likes to take everything out of the drawers, off the hangers - and reorganize them.
~ It was hard for me to get used to how many questions Janel asks. She wants to know everything. If I am telling her about a conversation, she wants to know when it happened, where we were, who was there and how it came up - not just what was said. She has a good memory and remembers details, so she likes me to communicate well.
~Also, getting used to putting the lid down on the toilet has been hard for me. I always forget, always. And, Janel can't stand it. Many times during the day I walk out of the bathroom and she asks me to walk right back in.

Two things we want to do in this next year of marriage.
~ I would love to travel to some place new with Isanon, or find new places to go on our days off. We seem to have found the easiest mall to get to - and go there over and over. I would like to branch out some.
~ As cliche as it sounds, in this next year of marriage - I want to learn how to love Isanon deeper. I want to find new ways to speak love to him, new ways to surprise him, new ways to serve him.
~ This next year of marriage, I want to do more active things with Janel. I want to go on more walks, explore new things. I want to go hiking or play a sport together. I want to be active, eat better and find things that Janel and I like to do together.
~ I want to also surprise Janel with a trip to somewhere new this year. I know how much she likes to travel, so I want to plan and take her somewhere without her knowing where.
These two years of being Mr. and Mrs. Costa Matos have been the greatest adventure of our lives. We have already lived (and learned) through so many things - and I truly could not imagine being on this adventure with anyone else. Isanon, I love you with my whole heart for my whole life. You are my greatest blessing, and being yours is my greatest joy. Happy Anniversary, my love. I am so glad I get to do life with you.

Oh hey, Friday! // Friday Favorites

Yay for Friday! I have been super anxious all week for this weekend to get here - because it is Isanon's weekend off, and because we are going on a little Anniversary Get-away. A little one on one quality time with the Husband makes me super happy, and is way overdue.

But, before we head off - Here are Five things I loved this week.

{One.} First things First....I found an online daily devotional blog that I just love! I have been searching for online devotionals/bible studies for so long and have never really found one that I loved. I've gone through a couple different ones, but for whatever reason never really loved them. Then I found SHEREADSTRUTH and I love it. Each day there is a bible text to read (we are currently going through the book of Hebrews) and then an application/study that follows. Anyways, check it out...because, if I haven't already made this clear - I love it!

{Two.} We have had so many celebrations this week, and it has been so nice. First we had a party for Lindsey on Monday night, then another little party for her Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday night we decorated Tia Rosa's office for her birthday on Wednesday, had cake with everyone at the mountain after lunch on Wednesday - then went out to pizza to celebrate her birthday last night. Two birthdays so close together was fun - and made for a very sugar filled week!

{Three.} Speaking of 'Sugar-filled', I made these triple chocolate chunk cookies for one of the celebrations. They were just a mix - so not taking credit for some amazing baking skills - but, they were so yummy. If I were in the US right now, I am positive that I would go out and buy another Package of them, or two. Maybe it is a good thing that these things are not so accessible here?
{Four.} The weather has been crazy this week. One day the sun is shining, the next it is back to being cold. The boys have taken advantage of the warm weather though and gone swimming a couple times. We are hoping that the sun decides to grace us with it's presence again this weekend.

{Five.} Monday we will celebrate our 2 year Anniversary - so today will be spent packing our bags for a little Anniversary get-away. I got our wedding video out today, and have made Isanon agree to watch it with me tonight. I don't think we have watched it since the day we got it, so I am excited to watch it again.
Hope you all have as great of a weekend as we are planning to have! Send a little prayer for warm weather for us! <3

Lindsey's party {in pictures}

Sunday was Lindsey's 26th birthday. Her and Bruno went on a little weekend getaway, so we through her a little surprise party when she got back last night.

Lindsey has been a great friend to me for years, and it was so fun for me to throw this little party for her. We truly had such a great time celebrating her! I brought out the tubes of plastic bubbles, and we all had such a great time building our bubble towers! Lindsey, we wish you the happiest birthday! May this 26th year of your life be a year filled with so much laughter and joy! Feliz Aniversario Lindinha!

Currently. {Vol. 11}

Hey there! Welcome to Currently, where I share what we are currently up to each week - and the goal(s) we have for the coming week.

Thinking about: How great last night was. We are starting to have Saturday night services here at the mountain with the boys - and last night was the first service. It was so good. The focus is more of a worship service-lots of singing, with a brief word in the middle. At first we could tell that the boys weren't that into it - but by the last song, their attitudes had completely shifted. Pastor Carlos did an altar call, and three of our boys went to the front to accept Jesus as their Lord. I am excited to see what God is going to do through these worship services and I am praying that these boys will start to see how much God loves them. -sorry about the color/quality of these photos - we had the lights dimmed, and I didn't want to use the flash and disturb the service.

Listening to: "In your presence Lord, I will find my strength. You're the breath in me, you're my everything."
Making: I made my first ever dump cake this week. I had a pineapple that was super ripe and needed to be used up. I thought about making pineapple smoothies, but then remembered a recipe that I had seen for pineapple dump cake. Literally, you put the chopped up pineapple in the bottom of the pan, sprinkle some sugar over it, sprinkle the dry cake mix on top and then put pats of butter all over the top and stick it in the oven for 50 minutes. It turns out to be this buttery-sugary fluffy cake with sugary pineapple chunks. It was good. The boys who did English class with me got to test it out too - we've decided it is a winner.
Goals of the week:
[Last week...]
  1. Continue to cultivate the habit of praying together every single night.//Still need more consistency.
  2. Work on a secret project.//check!
  3. Cook/Bake something new.//check!
  4. Invite someone over for coffee-snack, dinner or dessert.//This happened quite a bit this week.
  5. Have a movie night with the boys.//didn't happen this week...
[This week...]
  1. Continue to cultivate the habit of praying together.
  2. Scrub my oven!
  3. Teach the boys a drama/skit for next weeks worship service.
  4. Have a movie night with the boys.
  5. Be intentional.
Verse of the week:

Oh hey, Friday! // July Favorites

Oh hey, Friday....how nice it is to see you again. And, Hellooo August. I am so happy to see August. Contrary to the United States, August in Brazil means warm weather is on it's way. August means this rain will go away. August means more pool days, and beach trips. And I am one hundred percent fine with that. So, today we will officially say good bye to July - with Five things I loved about July.

{One} July 02nd was our first day back at Hope after taking our Vacation time in June, and it was such a good day. Three of our boys celebrated their birthday on this day - so we were able to come back in time to throw them a nice little party. You can read more about that party HERE
{Two} I have truly enjoyed getting to know the new 'House Parents' this month. We have had BBQ's together, dinners together, had each other over for coffee/snack, and spent many hours just talking and getting to know one another. It has been nice.

{Three} I loved our little "Festa de Julhinho". If you didn't read about it, you can HERE. We had the best time dressing up like 'Cowboys' and doing field games. The boys won so many prizes, and there was so much food. It was definitely one of the best days in July.

{Four} Our last minute Fourth of July Party. Obviously, Fourth of July is not a celebrated holiday in Brazil - so unless we make it into a special day, it will go by like any other day. For Lindsey and I, that was not ok...so at the last minute, we decided to make Hamburgers with fries and a very patriotic cake. She put decorations up at her house, and the four of us had a great time celebrating our Independence.

{Five} I have loved all the plants that have made their way into our home this month. I love the life that it brings to our home. Plus, green is my favorite color. :)
And there you have it, Five things I loved about July. Have a great weekend!
